Here we take a look at Rovers’ record against the Lancashire side and their historical performances in the League Cup, as well as some of the supporter reaction to the draw.

ROVERS RECORD AGAINST BLACKBURN IN THE LEAGUE CUP

Rovers have only met Blackburn once in the League Cup, with the Lancashire side triumphing 4-2 at Ewood Park in the third round during the 1969/70 season.

OVERALL RECORD AGAINST BLACKBURN

Blackburn have been the dominant side in the history of the fixture - winning 14 of 23 matches played with Rovers having taken only three victories.

However Rovers won the most recent fixture at Ewood Park, with a brilliant 3-1 triumph in the 2017/18 season courtesy of goals from John Marquis, James Coppinger and Alfie May. Blackburn - who were promoted at the end of that campaign - won the reverse fixture at the Keepmoat.

That win three years ago is Rovers’ only one to date at Ewood Park. They have drawn three matches.

ROVERS’ RECORD IN THE LEAGUE CUP

Rovers’ best run in the League Cup saw them reach the fifth round in both the 1975/76 and 2005/06 seasons.

The 05/06 season brought the memorable run with wins over Manchester City and Aston Villa before they lost on penalties to Arsenal at Belle Vue.

Reaching the fifth round in 75/76 was a mammoth affair with a two-legged first round against Grimsby, while the third round - after a win over Crystal Palace - saw them earning a replay against Torquay United after drawing in Devon. They then beat Hull City in front of more than 20,000 at Belle Vue before being beaten 7-2 at Tottenham Hotspur.

Alan Murray put Rovers ahead in the tie at White Hart Lane and Peter Kitchen brought it back to 2-2 after Spurs went in front, but Tottenham cruised to the win.

Rovers’ recent record in the competition has been mixed.

They earned a third round tie at Arsenal in the 2017/18 campaign and far from disgraced themselves in a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates. That season marked only the third time Rovers have progressed beyond the second round since their superb run in 05/06.

HOW ROVERS’ SUPPORTERS REACTED TO THE CUP DRAW

@nwarddrfc: Hopefully Blackburn just want out so they can concentrate on the league and we can get some prize money

@MaLiK_MaGiK: Decent draw, should be entertaining at least.

@TGS_98: Underwhelming

@Dantheman_RTID: Don't think it matters who we face ... I personally think Moore will throw it anyways to reduce fixture congestion.

@SamDavi08659735: Not Oldham ..…
