The left back was named on the wide left of midfield in the triumph over Portsmouth on Saturday and delivered a superb performance, capped with the winning goal.
While his options were limited due to the fitness of other potential options for the position, Moore said he felt James was the ideal choice for a role higher up the pitch in what he expected to be a tight game.
“It’s just another switch we felt with the type of game and the personnel we had would work best for us,” he said.
“It’s horses for courses really. That’s the way I see it.
“It’s working with players tactically in different positions and showing if needs be for the team, they can play that.
“Reece did that and I think he showed a level of composure, of solidity and he played it.
“Jason Lokilo was back but we didn’t feel he was quite ready to play 90 minutes.
“The extra few days will do Jason the world of good.
“We know Reece has played there before, that he can do a job there.
“He played there, did a very good job and got himself into the box and produced a very nice finish.
“It was a nice, tidy finish.”
