That is the verdict of teammate Matty Blair who says everyone will be looking for a reaction from the Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee at Cantley Park over the next few days.

John scored two own goals in Rovers’ 2-1 defeat at Gillingham on Saturday and has offered his apologies publicly since.

Blair made a beeline for the 20-year-old once they returned to the dressing room at the end of the game and offered his support.

“He was upset,” Blair said. “That is natural.

“No one is going to put any blame on him in any way.

“He’s been unbelievable for us since he came into the club.

“I just want him to react in the best possible way and say ‘right, sorry lads, I made a mistake and we’ll go again.’

“That is all he can do and that’s all we want from him.”

John attempted to keep out a corner that was threatening to float straight in with the aid of the wind but diverted it home to give Gillingham their equaliser.

And he drilled the ball past Seny Dieng as he looked to cut out a cross.

Blair says no blame for the defeat has been placed at the feet of the 20-year-old but teammates and staff alike will be keen to see evidence John has learned from his mistake.

“Cammy has been brilliant for us since he came into the football club,” he said.

“I speak highly of him because I really do rate the lad.

“He’ll know as much as anyone, he won’t need telling, that he’s made some mistakes.

“However, I said to him in the changing room, I don’t care about that now, it’s gone.

“I want to see the reaction in training this week and that will be the big thing for me, the squad and the gaffer, and himself really.

“He’ll learn more from this than any other game that he’s played in his life and I just hope he can come back strong from it.”
