'He reminds me of Brian Stock' - Richie Wellens compares Ben Close to Doncaster Rovers legend

Wellens made Close his first signing since becoming Rovers boss last month with the former Portsmouth midfielder signing a three-year deal.
And the Rovers manager compared the 24-year-old with Stock, who was an influential figure in the club establishing itself in the Championship a decade ago.

Hide Ad“He reminds me a bit of Brian Stock,” Wellens said. “He’s probably not as defensively as good as Brian in terms of front screening and blocking lines of passes into forwards but he’s probably got more going forwards.
“It’s just the way he carries himself, the way he holds himself on the pitch and technically is very good, his passing and his on-the-ball work.
“If you see some of his goals, when you get him in and around the final third, he can see the pass or score from distance.”
Wellens held discussions with several players on Monday and hopes to secure more deals in the coming days.
