FA Cup: Barnet 1 Doncaster Rovers Belles 2 (aet)

IT was a bitter sweet start to the season for the Belles whose last gasp winner was tempered by a serious injury to debutant Sue Smith.

Smith levelled for Doncaster with a stunning 25-yard drive just moments after former Belle Abby Prosser had given Premier League side Barnet a shock lead inside two minutes with a looping long range effort.

But the England star’s first competitive appearance for her new club quickly turned sour when she fell awkwardly and had to be stretchered off with a knee injury on the half hour.

The 32-year-old will have a scan on her knee this week to discover the extent of the injury.

Brave Barnet pushed the Belles all the way and forced the fifth round tie into extra time.

But with penalties looming another debutant came to Doncaster’s rescue when defender Leandra Little, who like Smith joined from Lincoln Ladies over the winter, forced the ball home from close range in the 119th minute.

The Belles will find out later today who they will face in the quarter finals.
