EFL to meet this morning with Doncaster Rovers v AFC Wimbledon match under threat

The English Football League have announced that the authority’s board is to meet this morning to make a decision on this weekend’s fixtures as the coronavirus threat deepens.

Government advice yesterday stated that mass gatherings, including sporting events should continue to go ahead, however last night it was revealed that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea player Callum Hudson-Odoi had both tested positive for Covid-19.

Arsenal’s match against Brighton was postponed and the Premier League stated that they would convene to discuss fixtures.

The EFL have followed suit and released a statement. “The EFL Board will meet this morning to make a decision on this weekend’s fixtures and beyond.”

Rovers are due to face AFC Wimbledon, with boss Darren Moore saying yesterday: “There is potential that it could affect the professional game and while ever you don’t want to see games called off, I think safety has to come first for all concerned and connected with the game.”
