We’ve missed some good opportunities to go top

Just how many chances do we need to go top of the table?

In the past few weeks, with the games in hand, the form we were showing and the opposition, we should really have benn looking down from above by now.

After the great 12-game unbeaten run away from home was ended at Bury we had a great chance to put things right in the two home games.

On Saturday last, Walsall showed how much they have come on since the opening game of the season.

In Fabian Brandy they had a player who took control of the game and made sure they went back to the West Midlands with all three points.

We got off to the worst possible start when Andy Butler headed home in the opening two minutes.

But we were level before the break with Billy Painter tapping away the equaliser.

Things looked good for at least a point until Brandy made us punch drunk by drilling home the winner with just nine minutes left.

On to last Tuesday night - a game which must be described as one of the worst matches for a long time.

We could have been there until midnight and neither team would have scored.

Imagine how difficult it was for me and my colleagues commentating on Rovers Player - certainly nothing to write home about.

Gary Woods made a couple of good saves to deny the livewire Izale McLeod.

The pitch did not help matters and neither did failing to register a shot on target all night.

Matters got worse by Brian Flynn confirmed Chris Brown will be out four to eight weeks. Many fans thought with Paul Keegan injured, Lee Fowler would be the obvious choice to step in but he did not even get a run-out.

I think we need to find a striker or at least give Jordan Ball a chance.

Crowds have been pretty consistent this season with more than 7,000 last Saturday and another 6,500 on Tuesday.

Let’s stick with them.

Meanwhile, I have been really surprised by the uptake for the coaches to Crawley on a Monday night.

It is half-term but weigh that up against the game being on Sky and it being a really long way.

So to be taking four coaches is great and we always have a bigger following for games in the London area because of all the Doncaster exiles.

There are still some seats left so phone asap.

Should you not be coming down with us, the Belle Vue Bar will be open at the Keepmoat tonight for you to go and watch the game.

Time is running out to get your season tickets at a cheaper price.

The club have also opened a competition to win a season ticket by taking the crossbar challenge.

We have reached the deadline for fans to pay the remaining balance for the Bournemouth weekender.
