The Inquest: John Ryan’s view on Doncaster Rovers’ relegation

THE fact is we are a small club like Barnsley and Peterborough.

The threat of relegation was always there as we entered each season in the Championship.

I feel we did well to last the course for four seasons.

The problem these days with being a small club in the Championship is that parachute payments and foreign investment is making the competition skewed in playing terms.

We have heard this week how the Allams have put a reported £51 million into Hull City over the past two years.

And that is a club that is safe in the Championship for another season but they have not torn up any trees.

Look at Leicester City, Cardiff City and many others - we just couldn’t compete with them.

I am very pleased that at the Championship meeting last week the Fair Play policy was accepted and that will make a great difference.
