Paul Keegan may have surprised more than a few people with his stunning free kick for Rovers in the 3-3 draw at Burton Albion but he took it all in his stride.

The Irish midfielder came off the bench and curled a free kick in off the inside of the post to level the game at 2-2.

The goal was only Keegan’s second in five years at Rovers but he insists it is not for the want of trying.

“I’ve hit a few before but it’s been a long time since I’ve scored one,” he told The Star.

“I’ve been knocking on the door for a goal for a long time now so thankfully I’ve got it.

“I could step up at any time to take a free kick, a penalty or whatever it is.

“You have to have confidence in yourself that you’re going to score.

“It was right on the edge of the box so that made it a little bit easier for me.

“I was happy with it.

“That buys me a good ten more or so free kicks now.

“We got a point out of it, unfortunately we didn’t get all three but we’ll take it and move on.”

Keegan admitted he was disappointed in Rovers’ performance at Burton.

He said: “The goals we conceded weren’t good enough or acceptable.

“We’ve got to do better than that. We can’t concede three goals.

“They were just sloppy goals and we’ve not been doing that recently. Hopefully we can cut that out and move onto the next game.”
