Rovers have suffered a big blow after loan star Sam Johnstone was recalled by Manchester United.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper has completed a loan move to hometown club Preston North End, with a view to a ‘seven figure’ permanent deal.
Paul Dickov revealed Johnstone’s departure at Monday’s press conference ahead of the FA Cup third round replay at Bristol City.
And he also revealed Marko Marosi will definitely play at Ashton Gate due to FA regulations.
Dickov has already begun pursuit of a replacement for Johnstone and hopes to sign an experienced keeper on a permanent deal before Saturday’s South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley at the Keepmoat.
“Manchester United have called Sam back,” Dickov said.
“He’s going to Preston, until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal which I believe, I might be wrong, is round about the seven figure mark.
“It’s a big blow. Sam has been excellent for us.
“The timing isn’t ideal because we’ve got a massive game on Tuesday night and FA rulings say you can’t bring in another goalkeeper for a replay.
“I always look on the bright side and it gives young Marko Marosi a fantastic opportunity to come into the team in a big game and show everyone exactly why I signed him.
“We will be looking for someone to come in.
“We’ve moved pretty quickly. We’re looking, hopefully by the end of the week, to have an experience goalkeeper in and permanently as well.
“It’s someone who has been promoted from this division.
“We’re looking to do a deal initially to the end of the season.
“It’s an experienced goalkeeper, someone I know well. Hopefully it’s something we can get done before Barnsley.”
