Sports writer Paul Goodwin gives his verdict on Saturday’s eventful 1-1 draw.
STUCKMANN 9 – Bailed his teammates out time and time again with a string of fine saves, the best to deny Leon Clarke low down in the first half and Peter Clarke with his legs after the break. Give that man his clean sheet bonus!
McCullough 5 – Struggled against Mayor in the first half but grew in confidence as the game wore on.
Butler 7 – Did brilliantly to deny Mellis with a stunning goal-line clearance. Puffed his chest out in the physical battle with Pope and Clarke.
Jones 8 – Snuffed out the threat of Tom Pope and won almost everything in the air.
Taylor-Sinclair 6 – Occasionally outmuscled but another encouraging display.
Coppinger 6 – Most creative player in the first half, almost teed up Williams in the second half.
Wellens 6 – Struggled to stamp his authority on the game as a result of Bury’s power and pressing.
Chaplow 7 – Performed admirably given his lack of pre-season minutes (sub Middleton – Neat and tidy as a late sub. Can consider himself very unlucky not to have started).
Forrester 5 – Paul Dickov was not wrong when he said Forrester’s ‘goal’ was his best strike of the afternoon. Flattered to deceive.
Main 5 – Worked hard, held the ball up well at times but offered very little threat (sub Tyson 6 - his direct running caused problems and should have resulted in a penalty).
Williams 6 – Best display yet in a Rovers shirt. Some intelligent running (sub Evina - his energy helped give the side a shot in the arm in the latter stages)
Walton 6, Riley 6, Hussey 7, Cameron 6, P Clarke 6, Etuhu 7, Mayor 8, Soares 7, Pugh 6 (Tutte 56, 6), Pope 6 (Mellis 56, 6), L Clarke 7.
