PAUL MAYFIELD: These next games are vital for our survival

Billy Sharp has certainly has not had the best of luck at Brighton since they opened the Amex Stadium.

Last time around saw Billy score then be stretchered off. This time he had a fantastic chance with a header but later foolishly reacted to elbows from ex-Rovers player Gordon Greer and was red carded.

As has been the case for the last three games, the elements were atrocious and chances were few and far between at Brighton and I don’t think the referee gave us much protection either.

Our rearguard was outstanding but I just think we did not command midfield. Dean Furman and Paul Keegan didin’t really get a grip of the game.

We had a good crowd of over 600 Rovers fans travel to the south coast and the fans really did get behind the lads. A couple of our fans from the West Country had a bit of a journey after getting on the wrong train and ending up in Kent! An elderly lady took pity and gave them a 25-mile lift to Brighton.

We also held a raffle for the Louis Jacob Sharp Foundation and raised £54.

The fixture list hasn’t been kind to us with the three furthest away games coming within the month, but the journey to Yeovil next Saturday will be helped by the fact that Rovers have offered to pay for the coaches - so the travel is free! A fantastic gesture from the club.

This Saturday sees Barnsley make the short trip to the Keepmoat for a crucial South Yorkshire derby.

The Reds are languishing in the bottom three but it’s still going to be a very hard game. Local pride is at stake as well as vital points.

In Danny Wilson, Barnsley have an experienced manager who took them into the Premier League. But with the season drawing in, we have to pick up points. The next three games are so important, we have to put distance between us and the bottom.

Supporters’ club members are reminded that they can pick up their members handbooks in the S.C shop in the North Stand community changing room area before the game.

To book on the coaches, call myself on 07961 727769 or Len on 01302 817347 after 6pm (if poss).
