Once again we could not break the hoodoo of Reading.

The Royals are probably one of the best and most organised teams we will meet throughout the season.

Although the 4-1 scoreline looks like we took a pounding, the hosts scored two late goals - the last coming in the 97th minute when we were down to 10 men, after using our allocation of substitutes.

Skipper Rob Jones ended up in the the back of the net with the stretcher poised, waiting to carry him off with a suspected broken arm but thankfully our worst fears have not materialised.

Things could have been different had sub Theo Robinson passed to Mark Duffy with the score at 1-1 and we had three against one.

We had a 15-minute purple patch but as they say, if you don’t take your chances.

A booking for Richie Wellens sees him miss tonight’s televised game at Middlesbrough which will be a big loss.

I must say that Reading really made the Rovers fans feel at home. On the concourse the home caterers all had Rovers t-shirts on with Stadium Way DN4 and they were showing the 2012/2013 highlight DVD of all the Rovers games as well as the Brentford game. I thought was a brilliant touch.

So to tonight’s game against the Boro, they sacked their manager Tony Mowbray this week which is not always a good omen for us. But with the Boro only winning two games so far this season, owners want instant success.

It will not be an easy game and with our injuries and suspension, our task has not been made any easier. But I can imagine we are looking into the loan market as back-up.

The game has been billed as the ‘Spirit of Teesside’ with ticket prices at £12 per adult and £7 for concessions and it is televised on Sky.

Coaches for the Boro game depart Retford at 3.45pm, Harworth 3.50pm, Bawtry/Rossington 4pm, Hare and Tortoise 4.05pm, Infirmary 4.15pm and Keepmoat 4.30pm.

There are also buses going from North Doncaster to the game (077803 16923).

Please could fans book early for Barnsley as I will be away in the lead up to the game.

Why not help the youth team? The Supporters’ Club are raising funds for them by doing ‘sponsor a goal’ for as little as 50p per goal.
