John Buckley: I’ll dare to say it - this Doncaster Rovers team is ‘too good to go down’

I probably shouldn’t say it but I do genuinely think we’re too good to go down.

That six-point safety cushion we’ve got is a little too close for comfort and it’s important we get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

But I don’t see a side that has lost just four of their last 21 games in all competitions getting dragged into a relegation dogfight.

We’ve got too many good players and you can see from the way that they are really digging in that there is a good togetherness about the squad.

I’m a little disappointed that we haven’t been able to kick on and really latch onto the play-off battle.

But we’re not losing games and you can see a progression from earlier in the season when we were a bit of a soft touch away from home.

To come away from Peterborough, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Portsmouth with four draws, to me, shows we are heading in the right direction.

Now it’s important to win our home games and finish the season strongly. That would lay a nice foundation for a serious play-off push next season.

Saturday’s opponents Charlton Athletic are right in that play-off picture but I think this is the sort of game that will suit Rovers.

Bristol Rovers got the better of us last time out at the Keepmoat Stadium but they are a side who are much rougher around the edges, more physical in their approach.

Doncaster should be able to get the ball down and play this weekend and I fancy them to get the right result.

I’m sure the fans are looking forward to seeing Alex Kiwomya. His pace gives us another dimension going forward.

Predictions: Rovers 2 Charlton 1, Walsall 1 Rovers 1
