Rovers have been in talks with an interested party about a fringe player and are set to make a final decision on his future this week.

While Ferguson refused to reveal the identity of the player in question, the Free Press understands Craig Alcock is one player who could be allowed to leave.

“There’s been one or two tentative enquiries about some of the players that haven’t been playing,” Ferguson told the Free Press.

“There’s one in particular so again I’ve got to make decisions.

“Sometimes it can be a decision that maybe, given who the players is, I might be able to help him out if he is out of contract in the summer.

“There’s further discussions I’ve got to have with one manager this week about where the player is and we’ll see what happens there.”

Ferguson had previously stated he would be forced to wait until late in the month before judging whether he had sufficient numbers in the squad to be able to allow players to leave the club.

But he revealed this potential deal would have to be decided upon in the next few days.

He said: “I think the way it’s going now I would have to make a decision sooner than that about whether I keep him or not.

“So again, it’s more conversations with the player, more conversations with the club that is interested.

“We’ll see what happens.”

The Rovers boss insists there will be no further senior incomings this month after the signing of Ben Whiteman last week.
