DONCASTER Rovers have made a sensational swoop for World Cup winning midfielder Robert Pires, it has been alleged.
Rumours surfaced on Sunday in a national newspaper that Rovers had made a move for the out of contract former Arsenal star, and appeared to be confirmed by the Frenchman personally on Twitter.
But the 38-year-old, who is currently without a club, will not be extending his playing career at the Keepmoat.
He wrote on Twitter: “Doncaster people called me! I am happy they think I can help them but it’s not in my plan to play there.”
Pires is reportedly hopeful of continuing his playing career following his release by Aston Villa in the summer and has been linked with moves to clubs in Qatar and Russia.
