An Andy Williams brace helped Rovers’ Development Squad to a comfortable 4-0 win over Hartlepool United in the Central League.

Fellow senior players Liam Mandeville and Alfie Beestin also got on the scoresheet during a fine team performance at Cantley Park on Tuesday.

Youngsters Danny Amos and Morgan James were particularly impressive on an afternoon where Rovers dominated possession with high tempo passing football and strong pressing.

John Schofield’s side mirrored the senior team with a 3-4-3 formation, with Williams, Mandeville and Issam Ben Khemis lining up as a front three. Beestin and Cody Prior acted a wing backs.

Rovers were in control from the start but struggled for clear cut chances against Hartlepool.

Jacob Fletcher finished well from close range after a fumble from goalkeeper Ryan Catterick but the referee pulled play back for a foul.

Hartlepool had few chances all afternoon but drew a stunning one handed save from Louis Jones when Josh Hawkes smashed a brilliant volley on goal.

Williams and Mandeville both missed chances before the latter won a penalty on the half hour after being brought down by Jacob Owen.

Mandeville took the penalty himself but saw Catterick parry after attempting to dummy the keeper.

There would be no mistake however when Alfie Beestin was dragged down in the box and Williams put Rovers in front from the spot.

Though they remained dominant, Rovers would not add to their score until the 73rd minute.

It started with an excellent run from James who found Williams to finish from ten yards.

Beestin – moved into the front three in a second half shake-up – drilled home a low shot after fine hold-up play on 84 minutes.

And Mandeville rounded things off when he smashed in from the edge of the box via a deflection after cutting inside.
