Doncaster Rovers v Sheffield United: Rovers to make late call on Luke McCullough

Doncaster Rovers will leave it to the last minute to decide whether to include Luke McCullough against Sheffield United today.

The 20-year-old centre back was on international duty for Northern Ireland in their Euro 2016 qualifier in Romania last night.

Boss Paul Dickov seemed to suggest that McCullough might have to make do with a place on the bench when he stated that Rovers have worked all week - without McCullough - on a plan to compensate for the absence of on-loan Blades defender Andy Butler.

But Dickov insists he will give McCullough every opportunity of featuring in this afternoon’s South Yorkshire derby.

“Luke’s on a flight on Saturday morning to come back,” said Dickov.

“What we’ll have to do is assess the situation when he gets back here, with regards to whether he plays or comes on.

“We’ll see how he feels.

“It’s a short-ish flight and there’s no time difference.

“So if Luke’s not playing [for Northern Ireland on Friday night] there’s a good chance he’ll be involved on Saturday.”

Jamie McCombe is in line to replace Butler, who is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Reece Wabara or Liam Wakefield will replace McCullough in the heart of the defence, if the former Manchester United youngster is not fit to start.

Nathan Tyson returned to training this week after tweaking his medial knee ligament in the win at Bradford.
