Reports in the national press have linked Doncaster Rovers utility man Niall Mason with Sunderland, Birmingham City and Hull City.
The 21-year-old has made 42 appearances for Rovers this season, rarely letting the side down despite playing in several different positions in defence and midfield.
Mason signed a two-year deal at the Keepmoat Stadium last May after spending last season on loan at Doncaster - his first season at senior level.
The former Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Southampton youngster spent time with Real Madrid’s academy when he was aged seven.
Sunderland are second bottom in the Championship - eight points from safety going into the final six games of the league campaign - and are reported to already be planning for life in League One.
Birmingham, Hull and Leeds United have also been credited with an interest in Mason.
