Darren Ferguson has made Everton youngster Conor Grant his first signing.
The 20-year-old midfielder has joined Rovers on a month’s loan.
Everton’s official website describes Grant as a “talented, left-footed player with an eye for goal”.
He spent the end of last season on loan at Scottish Premier Division side Motherwell, helping them to avoid the drop.
Ferguson said: “He’s a player I know well. From my discussions with Roberto Martinez we felt it would be a really good fit for the boy.
“He’s a good footballer, good size and he’s got a lovely left foot on him.
“He’ll understand straight away how we want to play because we try and play a similar way as Everton do in terms of between the lines and the thirds of the pitch.
“He has played wide on the left but it would be more as a narrow midfielder. I wouldn’t really class him as a winger.
“He’s more a central midfielder, very good on the ball, composed, good left foot so he gives you good balance in the team.”
