Doncaster Rovers have landed Sheffield United defender Andy Butler on loan until January.
The 30-year-old - who was born in Doncaster - moves to the Keepmoat Stadium after another loan switch to his former club Walsall collapsed.
Butler had been linked with a move to his hometown team over the summer before joining the Blades on a free transfer.
After failing to make an impression at Bramall Lane he rejoined Walsall on loan and played against Doncaster in the Saddlers’ 3-0 win over Rovers in September.
Walsall are thought to have re-voked an option to extend Butler’s temporary stay because they had other priorities.
The former Walsall captain unquestionably comes into the ‘leader’ category that boss Paul Dickov highlighted as an essential quality earlier this week, when the Scot revealed he was closing in on a much-needed loan addition.
Butler will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s visit of MK Dons.
