And two candidates have been invited back for second interviews.

But logistical issues will prevent those talks taking place this week and ensure they will therefore be held next Monday.

Rovers initially hoped to have a replacement for Darren Ferguson in place for the start of pre-season training on Monday at Cantley Park.

But this will now not be possible with an appointment now likely to be made by the middle of next week.

Assistant manager Gavin Strachan will oversee the early stages of pre-season training, which will largely consist of fitness work.

The Rovers squad will report for fitness and conditioning checks starting this Thursday and come together next Monday for the official start of pre-season.
