Sam Johnstone has backed Rovers to challenge for an immediate return to the Championship next season.
Johnstone proved to be one of Rovers’ star men in the battle against relegation after joining on loan from Manchester United in January.
After coming up short in the fight for safety, Rovers will be in a good position to bounce straight back according to Johnstone.
“I think they’ll do well next season,” he told the Star.
“They’re a great bunch of lads with a lot of quality.
“They got some very excellent results against some top quality teams last season which proved how good they can be.
“There’ll probably be quite a few changes over the summer like there always is but there’s a good base there to have a really good push next season.
“You could see straight away there’s a determination to come back straight away and I think they’ll be right up there.”
Johnstone also backed Paul Dickov as the man to lead Rovers’ promotion push.
He said: “The gaffer is a great guy and really good to work with.
“He’s been right to the top as a player and he can relate to all of the lads.
“We came so close to staying up and so much of that was down to him and the staff.
“He’s got a great team around him and people I learned plenty from.
“Training was always good which is a massive part of it.
“It’s good to see he’s going to have the chance to bring them straight back.”
Johnstone suffered a blow at the weekend after being forced to withdraw from the England U21 squad with a knee injury.
