Paul Dickov says he will maintain a patient approach to transfer dealings as he looks to add to his Rovers squad.

The Rovers boss had hoped to have add to the four new players already signed before Rovers jetted off for their pre-season training camp in Portugal last weekend.

And while no new arrivals were secured, Dickov says the right players are worth waiting for.

“No matter how close you think you are to a player, you can be so far away sometimes,” Dickov said.

“Like with the four we’ve signed, we have to make sure it’s the right ones.

“We had to be patient with the four we’ve signed, making sure they’re the right players.

“I could have signed a number of players by now, probably 10 to 12.

“But I didn’t feel they were the right quality or mentality that we’re looking for.

“It’s important that we’re patient to get the right players in.”

Dickov is hunting two full backs and a wide midfielder, but also remains keen on strengthening defensively and in attack.

Rovers were last weekend linked with a move for former Chelsea and Leeds forward Mikael Forssell.

The 34-year-old has been offered a new one-year deal by VFL Bochum, for whom he made 17 appearances last term, scoring three goals.

It has been reported Forssell has turned down the offer due to a desire to return to England.

Experience and quality is known to be Dickov’s priority, rather than quantity.

Richard Chaplow’s arrival last week has completed his transfer plans for central midfield with Harry Middleton expected to push for more first team appearances next season.
