Doncaster Rovers reveal list of released players

Long-serving midfielder Paul Keegan is one of three senior players to have been released by Doncaster Rovers following the end of their deals.

Gary McSheffrey and Aaron Taylor-Sinclair have also departed the club along with youngsters Joe Pugh and Joey McCormick.

Keegan was the second longest serving senior player at the club after joining in 2011.

The 32-year-old made 145 appearances for Rovers, establishing himself as a reliable player in the defensive midfield role. He also netted two goals.

Injury problems have reduced his game time in recent seasons and he missed the start of the campaign. But after returning to fitness, he managed just ten appearances with his three starts all coming in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Veteran forward McSheffrey is released after just one season at the club.

After impressing during a loan spell towards the end of last season, McSheffrey was signed on a permanent deal last summer.

But a string of injuries saw him miss the start of the season before surgery on his knee put him out of action until February.

From there, the 34-year-old managed 12 appearances, all but three coming off the bench. He did make an impact however, providing the assist for five goals during that time.

Full back Taylor-Sinclair joined Rovers in the summer of 2015 from Wigan Athletic.

He departs having made 53 appearances, with knee ligament damage keeping him out of action this season until April.

The 26-year-old made three substitute appearances and one start at the end of the season for Rovers.

Youth team graduate Pugh made just one senior appearance for the club, coming off the bench in the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Mansfield Town.

The 19-year-old striker spent the second half of the season on loan at Frickley Athletic.

Midfielder McCormick signed his first professional deal with the club last summer but leaves without having made a senior appearance.

Second year scholars Lloyd Henderson, Josh Barker and Matthew Gains will not be offered professional deals and have left the club.
