Paul Dickov has urged his forward players to relax in the final third as they look to get the goals flowing for Doncaster Rovers.

The 1-0 defeat at Gillingham on Saturday was the fifth occasion from the nine matches so far this season in which Rovers have failed to score.

Their goals scored tally stands at five goals in nine matches, raising concerns about their firepower in a season where they are expected to challenge for promotion.

Boss Dickov says his forwards must be calm and composed as they look to end the goals shortage.

“We just need to relax a little bit more in front of goal,” he said. “When things aren’t going your way you can get a bit uptight.

“The overall play of the attacking four on Saturday was good at times.

“But we can still be better.

“When you’re on top you have to take your chances.”

Dickov believes the partnership between Andy Williams and Curtis Main is beginning to come together.

But he confessed both need their luck to change.

He said: “They’re working hard. It’s not for a lack of effort on the training ground or the pitch.

“They just need a little something to go for them.”

Paul Keegan and Dany N’Guessan are both set to play some part in Rovers’ Development Squad game at Chesterfield this afternoon.

N’Guessan made his debut off the bench at Gillingham with Dickov confessing he is not yet ready to start.

He said: “It’s maybe a bit soon to put Dany in but needs must sometimes.

“He trained Thursday and Friday and looked sharp.

“At least on the injury side it is looking a bit healthier.”
