Darren Ferguson has revealed he is waiting for a response from one other youth player after Joe Pugh signed his first professional contract with Doncaster Rovers.
Pugh (pictured right) became the latest graduate of Rovers’ youth set up earlier this week when he signed a one-year pro deal, following in the footsteps of Harry Middleton and Mitchell Lund.
And one other scholar looks set to follow him, though boss Ferguson was tight-lipped over the youngster’s identity.
Ferguson was full of praise for Pugh – son of former Rovers midfielder Daral Pugh – and says he is excited by the room for improvement in the striker.
“He’s done very well the boy,” Ferguson said.
“We’ve had plenty of time to look through all the young players.
“We felt Joe and his attitude was first and foremost outstanding. He works his socks off.
“There’s plenty of improvement in him, enough to give him a chance.
“It’s up to us to get that coaching in him to help him improve. He can get a goal.
“I’m delighted we’ve offered him a deal. Being local is important as well.”
