Doncaster Rovers have transfer listed Thorsten Stuckmann, Curtis Main, Dany N’Guessan, Gary MacKenzie and Billy Whitehouse.

The quintet - all of whom are contracted at Rovers until 2017 - have been told by boss Darren Ferguson that they do not feature in his plans for next season and made available for transfer.

Nathan Tyson and Richard Chaplow are also poised to leave the club after invoking relegation release clauses in their respective contracts following discussions with Ferguson.

Rovers have also confirmed that youngsters Matty Davies and Ben Askins have been released.

Ferguson had previously said that he was looking to move on ‘eight or nine’ players in an attempt to rebuild his squad for the challenge the club will face in League Two next season.

Prior to that the Scot had also talked about lowering the average age of the squad.

So, in that respect, it is hardly surprising to see four players aged 30 or over among those who have been allowed to leave.

German goalkeeper Stuckmann, 35, was ditched by Ferguson after a costly error in the home defeat to Peterborough United.

Tyson, 34, only signed a new one-year contract extension in March but lost his place in the team to Gary McSheffrey during the final straight of the season.

In relation to Tyson and Chaplow’s contracts, Rovers said: “Darren Ferguson has also met with Richard Chaplow and Nathan Tyson who have verbally agreed to have their relegation clauses activated in their contracts.

“These must be exercised before the end of June and beginning of June respectively.”

Curtis Main and Gary MacKenzie both spent time out on loan, while Dany N’Guessan and Billy Whitehouse have rarely featured under Ferguson.

Rovers made no mention of back-up goalkeeper Marko Marosi. He is out of contract this summer and his absence from the list may suggest that the club are keeping their options open on that front, with Stuckmann likely to depart.
