Doncaster Rovers have confirmed they are hoping to seal a loan move for Watford striker Uche Ikpeazu.
Ikpeazu is travelling to Doncaster today to finalise a proposed loan deal until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old extended his loan stay at Crewe only yesterday but was recalled by the Hornets this morning.
Rovers hope to wrap up the deal in time for Ikpeazu to make his debut at Chesterfield on Saturday.
A Rovers spokesperson said: “Uche is on his way to Doncaster and we’re hoping to sign him on loan until the end of the season.”
Ikpeazu was man of the match when Rovers drew 1-1 at Crewe in November and Paul Dickov is understood to have watched the powerful forward in action for the Railwaymen at Port Vale on Saturday.
Sources in Watford have suggested Doncaster may face competition from another Championship club for his services but Rovers appear to be in pole position for the teenage striker’s signature.
