Doncaster Rovers: No regrets for Dickov as Richie Wellens rated ‘highly doubtful’ for Ipswich trip

Paul Dickov says he has no regrets over gambling with the fitness of Richie Wellens.

The midfielder had an injection to combat a foot injury in order to play against Bolton on Tuesday night.

But Wellens lasted just 34 minutes and has been all but ruled out for tomorrow’s trip to Ipswich.

Dickov insists he would not change anything if faced with the same decision.

“It was a risk that didn’t work and I’ll take full responsibility for that,” he said.

“If it was the same situation for this weekend with a player of Richie’s quality I would do it again.

“Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.”

Dickov faces a decision over whether to risk Lucas Neill who was withdrawn with a hamstring issue against Bolton.

And he is mindful the busy Easter weekend is fast approaching, while Gabriel Tamas is ready to start.

He said: “I need to decide whether it’s worth risking Lucas for Saturday for one game with the risk of him not being ready for Derby next Friday.

“If Lucas does miss out we’ve got someone ready to come in with equal experience at the top level in Gabby Tamas.”
