Doncaster Rovers: McKay brothers going nowhere insists Ferguson

Darren Ferguson insists there is no truth to speculation Doncaster Rovers youth team graduates Paul and Jack McKay are set to sign for West Ham United.

A report in a national newspaper this week claimed the 19-year-old twin brothers had been lined up for a switch to the Hammers after impressing while on trial.

But Rovers boss Ferguson denied a deal had been done.

“There’s no truth in it in terms of them joining them at all,” he told The Star. “They’ve both trained with us today.”

It is reported the link with the Hammers has resulted from the good relationship the twins’ brother, agent Mark McKay, has with the East London club.

Ferguson meanwhile revealed his decision over the future of Cameron Stewart will be dictated by the outcome of his quest to extend the deals of Rovers’ other three loan players.

Stewart – on loan from Ipswich Town – will see his deal expire on January 2, alongside those of Felipe Mattioni, Conor Grant and Craig Alcock.

While Ferguson is endeavouring to secure longer deals for Mattioni, Alcock and Grant, he has yet to decide upon Stewart, who has been told to find another club by Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy.

Ferguson said: “It will be affected by what the decision is on the other loan players we’ve got. That will have an impact.

“I’ve spoken to Cameron and he knows the situation. He’s fine with it. He’s been training really well and to be fair he’s done really well when he’s come on.

“He’s a good option for me. I think sooner rather than later he’ll want to know what is happening.”
