Doncaster Rovers stars past and present turned out in force yesterday to honour James Coppinger in his testimonial Legends match.
Coppinger himself got on the scoresheet as his side ran out 7-4 winners against a team captained by One Direction star Louis Tomlinson.
Among the highlights of an entertaining afternoon, former chairman John Ryan officiated the first two minutes before being sent off by referee Andy Butler, goalkeeper Andy Warrington rolled back the years with some excellent saves, Billy Sharp bagged a brace and the 4,000 in attendance enjoyed a lovely goal from crowd favourite John Doolan.
Jason Price scored twice while Leo Fortune-West, Greg Blundell, Mark McCammon and Martin Woods also got their names on the scoresheet.
Richie Wellens’ young son Charlie came off the bench to score for Coppinger’s team.
A portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
