Doncaster Rovers: Kelly eyes bragging rights in season finale

United have lost their last six meetings with Rovers and have failed to win on any of their last six visits to Doncaster.

But ex-Blades striker Kelly says Scunthorpe will head to the Keepmoat in good spirits for Sunday’s season finale.

“There is still plenty to play for and we are taking the game seriously,” said Kelly.

“It is one of the big games, a local derby, and we will be taking a really good support with us to Doncaster. If we win, it gives us the bragging rights through the summer.

“It is an important game and we would like to finish on a win. We had a good result the other day (against Gillingham) and would like to back it up against Doncaster.

“I have been to Doncaster on numerous occasions and it is a good place to go and play football. They are a decent team and have been for a long time so we are all looking forward to it.”

Kelly worked with Nathan Tyson at Nottingham Forest and Andy Butler at Walsall.

“I have got some friends who I will say hello to and then I hope we beat them,” he said.

“Doncaster have got big, powerful centre halves, decent midfield players and are quite quick up front.”

Like Rovers, Kelly says there is tinge of disappointment about what might have been at Scunthorpe this season.

Kelly said: “I am pleased with how it has gone since October. When you are in a difficult position when you start off and you avoid relegation, that is always the aim.

“It has been a long tough season and we are pleased that we stayed up, but it is tinged with a little bit of frustration from the times when we could have got slightly better results.”
