Back-to-back defeats have been followed up with consecutive wins following Saturday's impressive 3-2 triumph at Rochdale.

And McCann believes they have set themselves up well for the second of the 12-game phases with which he splits up the season.

'Two wins after two defeats is perfect,' said the manager of Rovers, who also beat Grimsby Town in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier in the week.

'Any critics or anyone thinking that we had stumbled, we've answered and we've gone and got two results.

'That's the start of our 12 game phase and we've got some points on the board.

'We've responded, we certainly have,

'I said it was a freak result against Fleetwood, losing 4-0.

'We'd lost two in a row and we've responded with two wins in a row.

'We're back on track.'

McCann was delighted to hear his team being booed off the pitch by home supporters '“ and not for the first time this season.

He said: 'It was another one when we've been booed off '“ we're making a reputation for ourselves.

'We must be doing something right if the fans keep booing us off the pitch '“ or something wrong.

'We won the game which is the most pleasing thing.'

Rovers will check on a suspected arm injury for defender Joe Wright, who left the pitch at the final whistle on Saturday clutching his elbow.

Wright will be suspended for Saturday's clash with Gillingham at the Keepmoat after collecting his fifth league yellow card of the season.
