The Doncaster Rovers boss has identified targets to boost his attacking ranks during his first transfer window at the club.

A forward could be Rovers’ only new signing of the window, provided Ferguson can secure longer deals for Rovers’ current crop of loan players.

Rovers will hold talks with Everton over extensions for midfielder Conor Grant and wing back Felipe Mattioni whose current agreements expire on January 2.

And they remain confident of agreeing a deal with Sheffield United over defender Craig Alcock, which could become a permanent switch.

“If we keep our loan players, I think I’ll only be getting one in,” Ferguson said.

“If I don’t, obviously I’ll have to replace a wing back for Felipe, a midfielder for Conor and still bring another one in.”

Ferguson confirmed his goal with what he hopes will be a single signing is to replace Crystal Palace loanee Keshi Anderson who is out with a long term ankle injury.

The Rovers boss has confirmed he hopes to move several players out of the club in January, feeling his squad will be too large when every player is fit.

One player tipped to leave is Harry Forrester who has been missing from four of the last five matchday squads.

However Ferguson revealed Forrester would have been on the bench for Rovers at Burton Albion on Saturday but for a bout of tonsillitis.

Curtis Main and Cameron Stewart were also kept out of the squad for Saturday’s 3-3 draw due to hamstring and back issues respectively.
