Doncaster Rovers: Dickov’s delight as strikers get off mark early

Rovers’ goalscorers have got off the mark early – and that is just the way Paul Dickov likes it.

Strikers Curtis Main and Theo Robinson found the net in the opening day win over Yeovil while Harry Forrester – who is expected to take up a good deal of the scoring burden this term – has netted twice in two games.

And Dickov is delighted to see his forward players getting into the scoring groove early.

“I know from playing in that position that it’s important to get off the mark early,” he told the Star.

“That way, it doesn’t weigh on your mind and affect what you do out on the pitch.

“But it’s also important not to get too frustrated if it doesn’t happen early doors for you.

“We’re very confident in the league that we’re in and the forwards we’ve got that the goals will come and we’ll cause teams a lot of problems.”

Last season, no player managed to reach double figures for Rovers with Chris Brown’s nine goals the top offering and Robinson’s five the best of the rest.

Dickov is confident this season will be different and expects at least two of his three strikers to net more than 15 goals this term.

And he also wants midfielders to chip in with a fair share of the goals.

He said: “To do well in any league you need your forwards to score 15-plus goals and a couple of them to do that.

“We feel we’ve definitely got that in the team in Theo Robinson, Nathan Tyson and Curtis Main.

“We wanted to try and get more goals from the wide areas and the midfield.

“Harry Forrester has got two in two now which is fantastic.

“You need everyone chipping in but we feel there are goals in the three strikers we’ve got.”
