Rovers are hoping to sign an experienced goalkeeper by the end of the week after the departure of Sam Johnstone.
The England U21 international joined Preston on loan for the rest of the season after being recalled from Rovers by Manchester United.
Paul Dickov says as soon as he heard of Johnstone’s departure, he had begun to line up a new keeper who will come in on a permanent deal.
“It’s somebody who has been promoted out of this league before,” Dickov said.
“Initially it would be to the end of the season, but he’s experienced, somebody I know well and hopefully we can get that done before Barnsley.”
Dickov is keen for a permanent deal to avoid another scenario like what happened with Johnstone this week.
Marko Marosi will start against Bristol City in tonight’s FA Cup third round replay at Bristol City tonight with FA regulations preventing Rovers from bringing another keeper in for the tie.
But Dickov insists Marosi will not necessarily be pushed out by the new keeper, should he impress at Ashton Gate.
