Doncaster Rovers have completed the signing of Niall Mason from Aston Villa on a two-year deal.
The versatile 20-year-old impressed on loan for Rovers this season making 42 appearances in his debut campaign in senior football.
Mason was out of contract at Villa Park this summer. Due to his age, Rovers have paid an undisclosed fee to the Championship club to make his move to the Keepmoat Stadium a permanent one.
Mason started out at Real Madrid’s academy as a seven-year-old before stints at Al Sadd’s academy in Qatar, Blackburn Rovers, Southampton and Villa.
He told Rovers’ official website: “I had a couple of options to go a bit higher up the pyramid, but this is a great platform for me. I am working with a manager and coaching staff who know my game inside out and can get the best out of me.
“They’ve all been really good to me and helped me develop, they’re probably the best coaching staff in League Two. They are only going to help me progress as a player.”
He added: “You can see the potential of the club, we have a good stadium and training facilities, and it has everything going for it really.
“We’re not going up to League One just to take part, we’re going up to give it a good go.”
