The pair have both been pencilled in for development games this month.

Striker Kiwomya is yet to feature for Rovers since arriving from Chelsea in the summer and then being struck down by Guillain-Barre syndrome.

McCullough missed most of last season with a cruciate knee ligament injury and then suffered another knee injury while playing for Northern Ireland in the summer.

The duo have recently stepped up their rehabilitation and trained with the first team this week.

Boss Darren Ferguson said: “It’s the best Al’s looked, he was very sharp. He looked really good.

“The plan is for Luke to play 45 minutes next Tuesday (Jan 16), Alex the following Tuesday.

“We’ll get a couple of games into them and then hopefully they’ll be back with the squad for start of February. If they can come through that’s like two new signings.

“With Alex it is actually a new signing. If we can get him through and back with the first team it’s a massive bonus for everyone.

“With Luke we’ve got to be careful because he hasn’t played for a long, long time. But, even when he trains with us, he adds that maturity and authority. The boy’s a good player.”
