BUCKY’S BLOG: Derby day draw was a positive result

There were a lot of positives to take from the draw with Barnsley.

In fact, I thought we were good value for 2-1. I felt we deserved to be in front and as a team we looked strong. The atmosphere was fantastic as well.

I couldn’t quite work out why we dropped deeper when Barnsley weren’t really causing us problems, I think that went against us in the end as Nick Proschwitz scored his second of the game.

On reflection, a draw was probably a fair result and it was by no means a disaster. I think the point favoured us rather than Barnsley.

As long as we keep picking up points, we’ll be okay.

James Coppinger was outstanding again and fully deserved his two goals.

I was pleased to see the new lad, Jordan Bowery, turning out for Rovers. He did a lot of running and was good with the ball for a big lad. He’s got a lot of attributes that will suit Doncaster and I thought he complemented Chris Brown (pictured) well who, for me, has been Rovers’ Player of the Season because of his consistency. He’s a workaholic.

Another point at Yeovil will do Rovers no harm at all, and we have the massive advantage of having Richie Wellens back in the midfield.

Rovers have coped okay without him but when he’s in the team, he’s a Premier League player. I remember talking to a player I once played with, John Sheridan, about Wellens during his Oldham days and when Rovers signed him, John just said ‘He’ll be the best player in the division’ - and that’s exactly what you get from Richie.

It worries me that we seem to play better against the stronger teams in the Championship, but hopefully we can put that factor to bed on Saturday.

Rovers are good on the counter attack so hopefully being away will suit them this weekend. It sounds obvious but the main aim is not to lose. If we draw, at least we keep that distance between us and the bottom clubs.
