Habib Beye remains a Doncaster Rovers player but Dean Saunders admits he faces a fight to keep the centre half.
Saunders would love for Beye to join the fight for promotion from League One next season.
But Beye is continuing to assess his options and could yet move on.
Saunders said: “We’re not really sure what’s going to happen with Habib Beye right now.
“I’d really like to keep him because he’s a quality player, he showed that last season.
“But we understand that he’s got to explore his options and that was always going to be the case.
“For now, he’s under contract with us and we’ll see what happens over the next few weeks.
Saunders added: “You have to remember that Habib Beye is a Premier League footballer really.
“He’ll be a colossus in League One but he’s going to be very hard to keep hold of.”
Beye signed an 18 month deal with Rovers earlier this year.
But the Free Press understands his contract contained a release clause that would allow him to move on if the club was relegated.
