The flying forward – one of Rovers’ top performers over the last couple of months – missed last weekend’s 1-1 draw with MK Dons after suffering a hamstring strain in training last Friday.

Fears of a lengthy absence were quickly quashed with Taylor progressing well through fitness work this week.

And provided he shows no ill-effects from his exertions with the medical team, he is set to link back up with the senior squad for training on Thursday.

“We’re very hopeful that Tayls will be training with us again towards the end of the week,” Rovers boss Darren Moore said.

“It’s great news for us.

“He’s done some extensive work with us this week and hopefully he won’t feel any effects of that.”

Taylor’s chances of featuring for Rovers at AFC Wimbledon this weekend seem slim but Moore says he would be considered should he continue making rapid progress.

“He is one that I will assess,” Moore said.

“He’d have to have no reactions to what we put him through on Tuesday.

“We put him through a quite vigorous workout.’’

Moore is awaiting further news on the shoulder injury suffered by Ian Lawlor during the Leasing.com Trophy defeat to Leicester City U21s last week.

Lawlor saw a specialist on Tuesday with the full diagnosis of the injury and is due back with Rovers later in the week.
