Doncaster Rovers to host Newcastle United as part of pre-season friendly programme
Doncaster Rovers will welcome Premier League giants Newcastle United at the Keepmoat as part of their pre-season preparations.
Steve Bruce's side will visit the Keepmoat on Friday, July 23 in a 7pm kick-off to give Rovers the chance to pit their wits against top flight opposition.
The friendly will not act as a tribute game for James Coppinger who started his career with the Magpies and recently retired after 17 seasons with Rovers. It is understood that Rovers are considering a separate game in the future in order to mark Coppinger’s career.
Away friendlies against Wakefield AFC and Harrogate Town have also been confirmed.
Rovers will travel to Wakefield AFC – who play at the home of Fetherstone Rovers – on Tuesday, July 20 with a 7.30pm kick-off.
The pre-season friendly programme will conclude with a trip to League Two side Harrogate Town on August 1 with a 2pm kick-off.
Rovers are set to confirm another home friendly against Championship opposition in due course.
