Doncaster Rovers set to sign Sunderland full back
Doncaster Rovers are set to confirm the signing of Sunderland left back Reece James.
The Sunderland Echo reports the 25-year-old is poised to arrive from the Stadium of Light for an undisclosed fee with the deal due to be confirmed as early as this evening.
We understand the reports are correct and James has penned a two-year deal with Rovers.
The former Manchester United trainee agreed to take up a clause in his contract at Sunderland to extend his stay for another year only last week.
But the prospect of a regular starting berth will prove attractive for a player who ended last season out of the side.
James joined the Black Cats last year having just won promotion with Wigan Athletic.
Though he was the first choice left back for much of the season, he was injured in Sunderland’s Checkatrade Trophy final defeat and failed to usurp Brian Oviedo on his return to fitness.
Rovers pressed on with their search for a new left back after talks over a new deal with Danny Andrew were ended more than a week ago.
