Crawford departed Hamilton Academical at the end of last season and hoped to secure a move to England.

He was offered a trial by Hearts boss Craig Levein and impressed in a friendly against Arbroath last Wednesday.

But his chances of earning a contract at Tynecastle were hit when Hearts signed former loanee Steven Naismith from Norwich City.Crawford join Hamilton at the age of 15 after being rejected by boyhood club Hearts.

He was one of the Accies' key men following promotion to the Scottish top flight, reaching double figures for goals in the 2014/15 and 16/17 seasons.

But he described last season as the worst of his career as he was blighted by a knee injury which restricted him to 19 appearances and three goals.

He told BBC Sport: "It was probably the worst season of my career so far.

"I started the season and then in September I got an injury. I've played six games since then so it's been frustrating to end it this way.

"Hopefully I can come back stronger next season wherever that may be."

In total he made 295 appearances for Hamilton, scoring 39 goals.
