The hastily-arranged practice match - against a visiting academy team - will give the Scot an opportunity to field a side close to the one likely to start in Saturday’s League Two curtain-raiser at Accrington Stanley.

It follows the cancellation of Friday’s game against Coventry City due to the club’s injury pandemic.

Mathieu Baudry, Craig Alcock and Gary McSheffrey will all miss the start of the new season.

Sources close to the club have told the Star that Luke McCullough, who went off injured during last Tuesday’s win at York City, could also face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Harry Middleton and Paul Keegan both appear to be long shots to be fit for the trip to the Crown Ground.

Centre back Joe Wright will be hoping to feature today after limping off against Newcastle United.
