Doncaster Rovers: No approach from Hull City for Grant McCann

Doncaster Rovers are sending out a business as usual message after speculation linking boss Grant McCann with the managerial vacancy at Hull City.

Sky Bet on Tuesday installed McCann as the odds-on favourite to replace his mentor Nigel Adkins at the KCOM Stadium after the former Scunthorpe United boss departed earlier this month.

At this stage there has been no contact made by Hull – who are reported to be interviewing prospective candidates this week.

It is understood that any approach for the manager from a rival club would be rejected out of hand by Rovers, who have a long term vision with McCann at the helm.

The Northern Irishman’s position in the betting for the Hull job altered dramatically on Tuesday as he emerged from well down the market to top spot as 8/11 favourite. By Wednesday morning his odds had further shortened to 8/15.

Despite this, McCann has continued to press on with his recruitment drive at Rovers, with the finalising of the signing of a left back which is likely to be announced on Wednesday.

The Rovers boss has also been working on the final details of a string of other deals which could be confirmed later this week.

He was unavailable for his usual press call with the Free Press on Tuesday.

Reports in Hull suggest Tigers vice chairman Ehab Allam has begun interviewing candidates for the role.

The Hull Daily Mail have also reported that the Allam family will be willing to pay compensation to land their man once they have selected their favourite applicant.

McCann would likely to well well informed about the landscape at Hull having kept in close contact with Adkins since his time working under the manager at Scunthorpe United.

Adkins departed the KCOM earlier this month, saying his and the club’s ‘futures are not aligned.’ Despite guiding the Tigers to an unexpectedly comfortable finish in the Championship last season he opted not to sign a new contract at the troubled club.

Michael Appelton started Tuesday as the 11/8 favourite, followed by current Macclesfield Town manager Sol Campbell on 10/3.

Managerial betting markets are notoriously volatile with just a handful of bets forcing significant shifts in odds.
