Darren Moore is calling on his Doncaster Rovers side to be more ruthless in front of goal after their disappointing 1-0 defeat at struggling Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

The result against a side which had failed to muster a league victory in 2020 puts a significant dent in Rovers’ bid for a play-off push in League One.

Frustrated Moore saw his side create a number of chances but were unable to find a way past in-form Shrewsbury goalkeeper Max O’Leary, who pulled off several fine saves to deny Rovers.

And the Doncaster boss said his players must improve their decision-making when presented with opportunities in front of goal.

“The players always showed that willingness, that commitment, that understanding but within that there’s decision-making to be made and I just thought we were lacking in those departments at crucial times in the game,” said Moore.

“We got ourselves into some good goalscoring positions but we weren’t ruthless enough or clinical enough to put the ball in the back of the net.”
