And Rovers boss Darren Moore hopes to hear further good news from the Premier League club later this week.

“He's out running and just building up his volume in training," Moore said.

“With the hamstring you've just got to build up the strength in training but I'm pleased to say the news coming back is that he's getting stronger and doing more each day.

"We're hopeful to hear more by the end of the week in terms of a timescale for him.

"The main thing for Niall is to be ready for when he comes back that he's ready to stay back.

“If it takes an extra week or ten days, we'll take it because we need him for that busy December period and as many bodies as possible.”

Another Rovers forward is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

Alex Kiwomya suffered ankle ligament damage in training with Rovers and will be out of action for some time.
