Top flight clubs agreed on Wednesday – after throwing out the prospect of discussions over the controversial Project Big Picture – to offer a £50million bail out to clubs in League One and League Two, which will come in the form of grants and loans.

A statement from the EFL read: “The EFL will meet with all EFL Clubs on Thursday to discuss the proposed financial support put forward today by the Premier League.

“In addition, the Premier League has requested further discussions with the EFL regarding the nature of this proposal and also on future, potential loan funding for Championship Clubs in COVID-19 distress.

“The League will be not be commenting further until it has discussed the elements of the proposal with its membership.”

A further update from the EFL is expected on Thursday evening.

The Athletic report that the £50million bailout is made up of £20million of grants with the remaining £30million made available as interest free loans with the primary goal of ensuring all League One and League Two clubs remain in business in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Talks between the Premier League and the EFL will continue over plans to provide assistance to Championship clubs, if deemed necessary.
